Henty was a "name" in his times. It is interesting seeing the role that novels played, in his era, towards developing the values set of young people - especially young men. "In the Irish Brigade" is a largely unknown story of the 'mercenary' role played by Catholic Irish who were displaced by British politics. At the same time you can see the efforts that Henty made to preserve those values held as essential during the period of the dominance of the British Empire. This book is good to read and provides plenty of fodder for thought.Product details

In the Irish Brigade A Tale of War in Flanders and Spain George Alfred Henty 9781359107671 Books Reviews
Its ok. Not what I thought it was going to be.
A Classic!
This story greatly increased my knowledge of events from 1690 to 1713 in Ireland, England, Spain, and France. A wonderful story set in a period many people know little about.
Books are written for a younger audience, however; Henty writes history in a short, concise way that allows me a chance to get an overall picture of it. I then have loads of data to research the historical record further.
